I have been doing and posting Payasa recipe every day during Navaratri. But the sad part is that composing/editing/publishing the recipe went a little out of schedule and has been lagging behind.

Yet, making sure that I don’t break the recipe series I started myself, here is another payasa recipe to share with you all.

Kadale Bele Saabakki Kayi Halu Payasa. To make things simpler,

Kadale Bele is Bengal Gram

Saabakki is Sabudana

Kayi Halu is Coconut milk

Imagine the combination of the 3 along with jaggery. The combined aroma is great to taste and relish.

You will need

Half cup Bengal gram

Half cup saabakki/saabudana

One cup jaggery

One cup fresh coconut milk

A pinch of salt

Ghee roasted dry fruits (optional)

Recipe

Bring 1 cup of water to boiling state. Add sabudana to the boiling water and allow it to cook under low flame. Keep stirring at short intervals to make sure that it does not stick to the bottom of the vessel.

Mean while pressure cook Bengal gram with little water. It is preferred that Bengal gram is soaked for about one hour.

Sabudana will turn transparent when completely boiled.

Then add all the cooked Bengal gram dal and add jaggery pieces. Boil for 5 minutes until you get the aroma of boiling jaggery.

At this point, add coconut milk and boil just for a minute.

Add a tiny pinch of salt and stir well.

Top the payasa with ghee roasted cashew/raisins/almond if you prefer it to be so.

Offer the payasa to Goddess during the Navaratri Puja and then serve the payasa prasada to everyone at home.

There is a huge list of sweets that can be prepared during the festive season. Indians have sweet tooth by birth. Thus, every sweet or dessert made at home is everybody’s favourite.

Today we present you the most easiest of all the payasa. Broken wheat pieces payasa.

You will need

One cup broken pieces of wheat

Half litre milk

One cup jaggery

One fist full of cashew nut pieces.

One spoon cardamom powder

How to prepare pudding from broken pieces of wheat

Soak wheat pieces in warm water for one hour.

In a pressure cooker, cook the wheat pieces with some water.

Add milk, cashew nut and jaggery along with boiled wheat and heat well until jaggery dissolves.

You will get the aroma of the boiling jaggery. Switch off the flame at this point and top it with fresh homemade ghee. Add cardamom powder and mix well.

Serve hot payasa.

One gets to see various form of art here. Warli art painting, oil painting, acrylic painting, kinnala painted wooden art, modern art, traditional painting, realistic photo painting, still life paintings, portraits, wildlife painting, inlay wooden art, and lot more.

This time, the exhibition has been organized during Navratri/Dasara in Mysore to attract more visitors.

Warli art painting is usually done by tribal groups of people in India to simply express joy, happiness, wedding, celebrations and many other happenings of life.

Kinnala Art is basically painted wooden art mainly from northern parts of Karnataka. The art originated during the Vijayanagara Empire. The artisans moved after the devastating war of 1565 AD. They settled in nearby villages and their art flourished in the villages. The village was named after the art of Kinhal.

There was this young artist named Mr.Gangadhar who considered painting and art as meditation. And that was proved in his work. His paintings (mostly oil) was close to the realisitic photographs.

No Photography, was what the staff at this section said to all the visitors with camera. Yet, I somehow managed to capture a couple of his paintings from far away.

This lion on the canvas costs INR 1,20,000.

Akki Payasa; also known as Haalu(Milk) Payasa, Rice Kheer or Paal Payasa is a special South Indian dessert made during festivals and special occasion. The combination of thick condensed milk, rice and sugar brings great aroma and taste.

This pudding was served as a puja offering to goddess on the 8^th day of Navaratri.

You will need

One cup Long Grain Rice – Basmati Rice

Milk Half litre

Sugar as per taste

Generous pinch of Saffron strands

One spoon cardamom powder

How to prepare Paal Payasa or Rice Kheer

Wash basmati rice under clean running water and soak it in warm water for one hour. In a cup of hot milk add saffron and keep it aside.

Heat milk in a thick bottomed vessel. When the milk boils, lower the flame and continue boiling.

Now add the soaked basmati rice to the boiling milk.

When the rice softens (which means it has been cooked) the milk would have thickened.

Add sugar, cardamom powder and milk in which saffron was soaked.

Cool the pudding and serve.

India has a never exhausting list of recipes of sweets and desserts. Once in a while forget all your diet, especially during the festive season. Festivals are always a grand invite for loads of celebrations with homemade sweets.

Here is a recipe of another easy and simple dessert made of milk.

This involved 5 cups of ingredients (vermicelli, semolina, dry coconut grates, jaggery & cashew/dry fruits) boiled in thick unskimmed milk.

You will need

1 cup fine semolina,

1 cup vermicelli,

1 cup dry coconut grates,

1 cup cashew nut pieces or mixed dry fruits,

1 cup jaggery,

1 litre milk,

2 spoon cardamom powder

How to prepare 5 cup milk pudding

Heat milk in a thick bottomed vessel. When it boils, lower the flame and continue boiling so that it thickens. Stir continuously so that it doesn’t get burnt.

Mean while, in a pressure cooker dry roast semolina, vermicelli, coconut grates and cashew nut/dry fruits. Optionally you may even add a spoon full of homemade ghee.

Once roasted sufficiently, add some milk (if needed, water too) and cook under pressure for just 1 or 2 whistles.

Transfer these to the vessel in which milk is boiling.

Add jaggery and let it melt. Once jaggery too begins to boil, you will know by the aroma it spreads.

Now, add cardamom powder and switch off the flame.

This is an amazingly delicious milk pudding you can serve your guests. This taste great if chilled before serving.

Who does not like to get adorned with henna designs on their hands? There is no age limit for applying henna; from little girls to teenage girls, from new brides to middle aged ladies and even old ladies; everyone likes mehendi.

The dark brown color stain it leaves behind on the skin is beautiful to watch.

Here we have few free hand designs of mehendi for applying for little girls.

Simple circular spotty dots make the little hands cuter.

A circular collection of dots and spikes makes the design cute of the little palm. If you fill the little fingers with more dots and spikes, then the entire palm is going to be interesting.

This is another simple design where you just have to apply dots in a neat manner. A big circular dot at the centre and tiny dots to decorate around the big central dot. Repeat this dot fashion again and again to cover the entire palm.

For this type of design, make a circular dot neatly in your favourite pattern. Then, clean the tip of the mehendi cone. Using the cone tip, carefully pull the dots in the outward direction making a small line.

This design resembles the image of the sun with his rays spreading far away. Kids will find such designs interesting.

Some more designs to quickly apply on your kids hands.

Dots are the best way to decorate kid’s hands. Kids can never stay in one place without shaking. And it might get really difficult to apply henna neatly. Spotty designs come very handy while applying henna for kids.

Gud Anna or Bella Anna is Jaggery Syrup Rice, the traditional rice dessert.

The recipe is basically rice mixed in boiling jaggery syrup along with dry fruits and ghee.

The aroma and stickiness that jaggery brings to this recipe is the specialty. It smells very good and when topped with ghee and cardamom it spreads more aroma around the house.

Gudanna is specially made during festivals in South India (read Udupi) and offered to god during puja. It is then served as puja prasada amongst guests and family members.

You will need

1 cup rice

1 cup jaggery

4 spoon ghee

One fist full of cashew nut pieces

Cardamom powder for flavour

Grated dry coconut

How to make Gudanna Prasada

Cook 1 cup of rice with sufficient water. Drain the water and keep the rice aside for cooling.

Heat little amount of ghee in a pan and add cashew nut pieces along with it. Fry the cashew nut until it turns golden brown. Set the ghee roasted cashew aside. We will use it later.

Now, take a wide thick bottom wok. Add 1 cup jaggery and melt it under low flame. Keep stirring so that it does not stick to the bottom. Avoid adding water. When the jaggery melts completely it will form a sticky syrup like consistency.

To this jaggery syrup, add rice and stir well. Add one spoon of ghee. And mix well.

Do not stop stirring.

Add roasted cashew, cardamom powder and dried grated coconut. Add more ghee and stir.

Keep the flame low and continue stirring until all of the jaggery is absorbed by rice.

Transfer to a fresh clean bowl and offer it to god during puja.This is recipe of Guda-anna is specially made during the festivals of goddess.

Deepawali is about to come, but the feel of Navaratri has not yet vanished from Mysore.

The world famous Mysore Dasara that is closely associated with the Royal family of Wodeyars is witnessed with great joy and devotion by millions of people.

There are so many events that happen across the city of Mysore. What to see and what is not to be missed? This excitement in the air leaves the tourists, visitors, locals, natives baffled and the entire city sees scores of people flocking in.

Flower Show is a great event organized by the horticulture department of the state. Usually held at Kuppanna Park, it is a visual treat. The floral and veggie decoration is so innovative and it is believed that the department puts in many months of efforts for the arrangement that lasts for 10 days of festival.

Stone Chariot of Hampi is made from about 1.5 lakh roses. This was the main attraction of the 2015 flower show.

Goddess Chamundeshwari, Nandi and Mahishasura are made out of vegetables.

Capsicum peacock and peahen are very creatively made. Another major attraction was Dr. Kalam and two children along with him made out of wheat noodles.

Rangoli is a part of Indian tradition. Come festivals, then begins the cleaning and decoration of every corner of the house. It all begins at the front door of the house. Deepawali – the festival of lights is one festival that is celebrated to mark the great victory over evil is the biggest, brightest and the most important festival of India.

The best way to use this cream is to apply half an hour before you set out for sun. It can be applied to any exposed portions like hands and neck. As a sunshield it has no match to any available sunscreens in the market. It is very effective in protecting skin from sun rays and cures skin irritations caused due to climatic changes.

We all love healthy white teeth and maintain a routine of brushing teeth before and after bedtime with colourful gel based fragrant tooth pastes. Mango Leaves:

We are all aware of health and beauty benefits of the juicy mango fruit, the same is from its leaves. The compound mangiferin which has antibacterial agents inhibits the growth of bacteria aiding tooth decay.

In south of India mango leaves was commonly used as tooth brush until the birth of tooth paste. Even today in some villages we find the same practice. There are people without a single teeth fall at their old age as they have used these leaves from childhood for teeth cleansing Wash and clean mango leaf and tear open the mid rib. Hold the leaf with your fingers and gently rub all your teeth. It not just cleanses your teeth but also sharpens them which you will never experience from the modern tooth paste. The herbal fragrance makes your oral breath fresh and removes the bad odour.

Now the mid rib of the mango leaf is an excellent tongue cleaner.

You can also burn the mango leaf and collect its powder which can be stored as tooth powder.

Clove and Cinnamon:

Make a fine powder of the two spices and store as a tooth powder in an air tight jar. Place a spoonful of powder on your tooth brush and brush as usual. This is an excellent teeth cleansing technique making you forget tooth aches. Cloves contain eugenol that makes it anaesthetic and antiseptic helping to relieve pain and wiping the germ causing tooth decay. At severe tooth ache, dip a cotton ball into clove oil/cinnamon oil and press against cavity. It relieves pain instantly making them numb.

Coconut oil:

Brushing teeth with salt also prevents the bad breath. If you are worried of abrasion then make a salt solution and dip your tooth brush into it.

Banana Peel:

Bananas are the all season growing and highly nutrient fruit. Unaware of the banana peels importance, we usually throw them to waste. The peel is rich in minerals like potassium, magnesium and manganese making your teeth bright in few weeks.

Rub your teeth with the inside portion of the peel for about 5 minutes. The minerals get absorbed by the teeth and gums making them strong and healthy. Make sure you have rubbed all your teeth thoroughly and leave it on your teeth for 10 minutes. Wash your mouth with warm water. You will find the teeth whitening up gradually.

The banana peel remedy is more preferred as they are not abrasive.

Most mums complain about their child not drinking their regular glass of milk. It is a great challenge for kids too when it comes to gulping down the milk glass.

Getting bored of anything usual is the normal tendency in kids. Kids look for change in what they have been following so far. So, changing the flavour that you add in the milk as frequently as possible might work to some extent.

Give this milk flavour a try. You never know, your child might stick to this taste for long.

Dried fig and almonds tastes best combined together as a flavour.

You will need

1-2 dried figs
3-4 almonds
One glass of milk
Sugar (optional)

Figs and Almonds Smoothie

Heat half glass of milk and bring to boil.

In a clean bowl place the figs and almonds. And pour the just boiled milk to the bowl.

Close a lid and allow the figs and almonds to soak in hot milk for at least one hour.

After sufficient soaking, transfer the contents into a blender and blend. Add more milk if needed and also sugar if more sweetness is needed.

Blend everything into a smooth pap like texture. Add milk and adjust the consistency as per your choice.

Serve warm or cold.

Both Figs and Almonds are very healthy and extremely needed in the diet of growing children.

Smoothies can fill you up very quickly and also satisfy your sweet cravings. They are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.
