Should You Buy A Baby Walker

Read Previous Article: Mothercare All We Know Baby Lotion Review

A baby needs a walker or not before he/she begins to walk is a topic with different opinions.

There is no proof or guarantee that the baby learns walking after introducing to the walker. The first footsteps and subsequent un-balanced foot-steps and running are independent of using walker.

But some parents buy walker; not as a means of learning to walk, but for entertainment. Walker is one of the best aids for the baby who has not yet learnt walking to move around freely with ease. It can be compared to a tricycle of a toddler.

BSA Baby Walker India

So, when the baby is bored on the walker automatically baby will ask for coming out of it. Well, supervision is required when baby is put on walker. That is always there.

We bought a walker from the brand BSA. Read review HERE .

If you remember, BSA is a good old brand which made cycles earlier. Every house had a cycle then. Petrol/diesel was not very much depended on. BSA now has extended their range of products.

The first few days of buying we felt as though he (our son) would never learn to roam around with it. He would just sit on it, look at our face and smile. We had to push the walker around so that he would get the fun out of it. Couple of days later he accidentally slid himself backward in the walker. Confused and worried looks spread around his face; worth watching. And then in another couple of days he learnt to speed around. That was again a big challenge for us to control him.

He had access to a lot of the things. He could reach new height which he never knew before. His activities changed totally. He enjoyed whilst we suffered managing around.

The BSA Walker has a square base with wheels at the corners. The wheels rotate in all directions. The seat is made of cloth, it is detachable and washable. Washing became a routine of alternate days.
While selecting a walker you should make sure that the body is of good quality plastic or any other material if you choose so. There should not be sharp or hard edges on the walker. Thus, the walker should not harm your baby in any way while being seated in it.

If you think you can put your baby on the walker and you will get some free time to do your work, then you are wrong. Very wrong. It is the other way round. You have to be after the walker, where ever your baby moves around in it.

baby walker yes or no

You should note one thing; the use of walker is very limited. Baby does not spend any major time on walker. And if you consider the age time, then hardly 3 or 4 months before they actually begin with their independent footsteps. And then, nobody wants this walker.

Consider the below facts before buying a baby walker

  • Your baby gets to reach new height which he/she has never reached before.
  • Baby can easily get hold of things which might be hazardous.
  • Baby has no control on the speed and can easily crash into a lot of things.
  • There is always a risk of baby walker tipping and falling down the stairs.
  • A baby is very unstable in the walker if left alone on an uneven surface
  • Baby walker travels a lot faster than you can think of stopping the accident.
  • Walkers do not help baby to learn to walk.
  • Using too much of walker can also lead to delay in developmental activities. Baby should learn to roll, crawl, sit and play on the floor and then eventually stand and begin on the first foot steps before running around.
So, the decision is purely personal. Anybody’s recommendations do not help in this matter.

As for the BSA Walker, it is very good. For the price and the brand, the quality of the walker is very good. If at all you decide to buy a walker, then you can think of considering the brand BSA.

Although I have covered many Patanjali products, there are yet lot more to experience with. Patanjali has a wide range of beauty, food and health care products.  Here is one more daily skin care product, Patanjali body lotion which claims to be filled with ayurvedic medicines for skin goodness.

Patanjali Body Lotion Review

Price:  It costs Rs 60 for 100 ml. Patanjali products are usually affordable and most of the products are worth a penny.

Ingredients:

Patanjali Body Lotion Review

Package: Like all other body lotions, patanjali body lotion comes in an elongated opaque fibrous bottle with a screwing flip cap. Press the bottle to flow out the lotion; it has a descent rate of flowing. The bottle is opaque where you cannot make out the quantity left behind, but screwing the cap is quite helpful to check the amount remained.

Patanjali Body Lotion Review

Nature: Peach colour similar to the oldest Lacto calamine cream is how the body lotion appears. When dropped to your palm the body lotion has quite thick consistency, but immediately melts and spreads when you rub over your skin. To be clearer, it has a perfect consistency neither runny nor thick. The lotion does not grease and oily the skin even after long hours. It completely gets absorbed makes your skin smooth and shine.  The lotion is free from chemicals, skin irritations and filled with nature healing products like aloe, turmeric, saffron and many more.

Patanjali Body Lotion Review

The lotion is mild and may not be useful for extra dry skin and even on winters. But for normal and dry skin in normal temperatures they are really skin friendly. Also the lotion has no sun protection which should be mandatory ingredient in body lotions.  Softening and smoothing is its property, but does not work much on rejuvenating and skin glowing.

Fragrance: The smell is pleasant but quite strong. I did not find the scent resembling any of its ingredients rather I found it like a traditional perfume.

Pros of Patanjali Body Lotion:

·         Affordable and efficient
·         Standard hygiene package
·         Nature ingredients
·         Available online and patanjali stores
·         Controls dryness without making skin oily

Cons of patanjali Body Lotion:

·         Scent may be strong for sensitive noses
·         No spf
·         May not be helpful for extra drying skin

Rating: 4/5

Recommendation: Overall it is a descent product, especially for those who prefer light body lotions and you have no fear of skin harming. Try not to purchase during harsh winters. Monsoon and summers are the perfect time for this lotion.

Indian Noodles

Noodles are big hot news today. Whether true or false we have to accept that it’s time to send our favorite noodles to the waste bin. There is nothing to attack on the noodles and put a ban on it, it is a known fact that all the packed foods are unhealthy and has serious health effects.  Bachelors, spinsters, married, kids in fact the entire Indian population must be depressing for losing our favorite instant staple, “noodles”.

As we all know noodles are the made from unleavened dough stretched or rolled into different shapes and sizes. Basically they are cooked with boiling water and the cooking time depends on the thickness of noodles. They can be cooked along with vegetables or eaten alone with salt and sauce.

Noodles

Coming to the nutrition point of noodles, they are simply junk foods. These are fillers which is a dump to your stomach and very tasty for your taste buds. But yes who cares so much for health? After all everyone has to fall sick one day, true rightJ. These funny rolls have fit the today’s busy lifestyle making life easy and happier. Either eaten alone or as soup noodles they are along with you for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The base material of instant noodles may be wheat, rice , maida , corn and any non vegetarian food.

Leaving back the modern instant noodles, there is Indian originated noodles which most of us are unaware. Indian noodles made from rice are originated from centuries ago before the modern one was born. Kheer is also one form of noodles. In south of Karnataka they are called has “semige”.

I have already shared an article on the recipe of rice noodles/vermicelli (semige) and the rava noodles/vermicelli.

homemade rice noodles Indian noodles

Home made Rice vermicelli

Steaming the rice balls/rava balls and pressing them with a press up instrument which brings the form of noodles. These are the real healthy, tasty and hygiene noodles. They can be eaten alone or with curd and pickle or seasoned along with the taste of lemon.
And as we know no festival and occassion is complete without the sweetest kheer pie.

Vermicelli Kheer Pie

Ancient Indian foods are stolen and processed with chemicals and flavouring agents .These are the real noodles which never gets a ban.  Semige/vermicelli into noodles and pastas, dosa and uttappa into pizzas and many more similar food transformations can be identified.

My say is, make a practice to love Indian food which is safe and pure for your good and happiness. Adopt the goodness of western culture but do not forget the native.

Oats Upma Recipe

Oats upma recipe is so easy and gets done in a short time duration. The way of preparing is similar to the traditional semolina upma. I usually add the cooked vegetable stock along with masala powder to taste differently from the normal upma. Also I do not love the light smell of oats so the vegetables and a twist of lemon covers the oats flavour.

The recipe is great for the oats lovers who start their day with porridge of oats. This is as simple as oats porridge.

Oats Upma Recipe

 Ingredients:

2 cups of oats
Water
Carrot, potato, tomato
Lemon juice
Coriander leaves
Red chilli
Ginger
sweet corn (optional)
Turmeric powder
Garam masala powder
sugar
Salt
For seasoning:
Ghee
Sesame seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds, ground nuts, curry leaves

Procedure:

In a deep pan add 2 spoons of ghee allowing to heat at low flame. Once hot add sesame seeds. When sesame starts to splitter add cumin seeds, urad dal, chopped curry leaves, red chilli and groundnuts.

Fry till the groundnuts turn golden.

Add 2 cups of oats and stir them continuously for 5 minutes. Do not  burn the oats.

Oats Upma Recipe

Transfer the fried ingredients to a clean plate.

Add 2 cups of water to the pan and add the vegetables (1 chopped tomato, 3 spoons of carrot grates, one chopped potato) and allow them to boil. Add potato at the beginning as it takes longer time to boll. Add ginger grates, salt, sugar and one tea spoon of garam masala.

Oats Upma Recipe

After the vegetable stock is boiled add the fried oats to the boiling water and stir continuously.  You can even add sweet corn kernels, it makes the recipe turn differently. Depending on the thickness and size of oats you may require more or less of water.

Oats Upma Recipe

Once the oats is softened and mixed well with other ingredients, switch off the flame. Garnish with coriander leaves and squeeze a lemon.

Oats Upma Recipe

Oats upma is ready to be served.

You can skip the vegetables and prepare the same like the semolina upma.

When you hear the name Rani Chennamma, all that comes to picture is patriotism, valour, courage, self-confidence, and the fight she put up against the mighty British forces.

Royal Emblem of Kittur
Royal Emblem of Kittur Dynasty

Rani Chennamma hailed from Kittur, a small village now in the district of Belgaum. Kittur has a prominent regional history when it comes to fighting against the British rule.

The Kittur Dynasty

Kittur became the seat power of Kittur Kings during the 12th century. Hiremalla Shetty and Chikkamalla Shetty were the rulers with whom the kingdom of Kittur started. As a gift for their heroic deeds, the Shetty brothers received Kittur from Adil Shahi, the king of Bijapur. The Shetty brothers ruled the region from Sampagaon as their capital. The kidsom saw 11 more rulers after the founders.

The 6th ruler of the kingdom, Mudimallapa Desai, moved the capital to Kittur and built the grand fort and palace of royal residence at Kittur.

kittur fort and palace

During the rule of the 11thking, Mallasaraja between 1782 – 1816 Kittur experienced prosperity and welfare eventually obtained great fame. This tempted Maratha Peshwa Bajirao II of Pune to annex this small kingdom to his kingdom. In the pretext of extending a hand of friendship, he invited Mallasaraja and treacherously imprisoned him. The Kittur ruler died 3 years later in imprisonment.

Kittur Rani Chennamma; the Patriotic Queen

Mallasarja’s first wife Rudramma, turned towards spiritualism while his second wife, Chennamma was an able administrator.

Chennamma coronated Rudramma’s son and the next king, but he proved to be a very weak ruler. Chennamma ruled the kingdom on his behalf. Yet, the young king died issueless in 1824.

Seizing the opportunity of an heirless kingdom, The British started interfering in the administration of Kittur. British East India Company abolished the practice of adopting an heir and annexed the kingdoms to their provinces. Thackeray, the British collector of Dharwad, seized the treasury of Kittur.

This provoked the Queen of Kittur and confronted the collector defeating him and his men. Thackery was killed by Amatur Sadhunavar Balappa who was a loyal body guard of Chennamma.

This victory was however short lived. British in a few months attacked and seized the fort of Kittur. This time Chennamma lost to the mighty British force. She was held in captivity at the Bailhongal Jail.

Her aide Sangolli Rayanna continued the struggle, but fell victim to the betrayal of his own people to the British and was executed.

Chennamma, disheartened lost the will to live and eventually breathed her last while still in British custody in 1829.
The patriotic queen who chose to fight in spite of knowing that her army was no match to the large British army; became a great inspiration to the subsequent freedom fighters of the nation.

The royal residence of the kings of Kittur now remains in ruins.

The British army destroyed the fort, looted the palace valuables, removed and sold the wooden doors and windows; literally left Kittur in a shattered state.

The grand palace popularly known as Rani Chennamma's Palace was constructed in Peshwa-Islamic style.

    Jackfruit Fritters Recipe

    $

Who would not sniff around in this season to search for the juicy yellow fruit, jackfruit? Especially for people from south Karnataka (home town of jackfruits) where you do not find a single home without jack fruit trees in their backyard. I too belong to such a native where I could eat them for free till my fullest and hide some pods to gulp them later on :). Although the jackfruit pods are delicious to eat alone, there some locally prepared cuisine from both ripe and raw fruit like jackfruit sambhar, jackfruit stir fry, jackfruit pie and halwa, jackfruit dumplings (gidde) and jackfruit fritters (appa).
The one here is the jackfruit fritters, famous as jackfruit appa among the locals. These crispy sweetened balls are so yummy and go empty before you start counting.

    Jackfruit Fritters Recipe

    Ingredients:

    15 to 20 jackfruit flesh/pods
    One cup semolina
    Half cup grated coconut
    Jaggery
    Cooking oil

    Procedure:

Roast the semolina at low flame till the odour vanishes may be for about 8 to 10 minutes. Keep stirring to avoid burning of semolina. Allow to attain normal temperature.

Deseed the jackfruit flesh and chop them to pieces. Blend the chopped fruit into fine paste in a blender without adding water.  Collect the paste in a container.

In a blender, blend the roasted semolina and the coconut grates. Do not grind them finely, let the mixture be rough. Here again do not add water while grinding, in case you require water add the jackfruit paste as a liquid medium.

Pour the blended mixture to the vessel containing jackfruit paste. Add jaggery and mix them well. The amount of jaggery depends on how sweet the fruit is. In normal terms 2 or 3 spoons of Jaggery is sufficient.

    Jackfruit Fritters Recipe

Note that the batter prepared should be thick with rough particles resembling the idli batter. Watery batter makes the cooked fritters/appa oily and hard. You can add more of semolina at the end if the batter is watery.

Heat cooking oil in a deep pan.  Once hot drop a small portion of batter to test whether the temperature is rightly attained.  If yes, then slowly dump the round shaped batter (lemon size) to the hot oil.

    Jackfruit Fritters Recipe

Deep fry these fritters at a lower flame to avoid burning/blackening. Keep them stirring till they get fried evenly and turn golden brown uniformly. Drain and transfer them to an absorbent tissue paper to remove excess oil.

Serve them hot or cold, the taste never differs.

    Jackfruit Fritters Recipe

The same can be prepared with rice or wheat flour, instead of semolina/rava. Soak dosa rice for 2 hours and grind them roughly in a mixture jar and rest of procedure seems to be similar. Rice batter comes to be tastier than the semolina or wheat flour ones.

Who is not aware about oiling and massaging? It is one of the best gift you can give yourself on a relaxing holiday.

Finding the best hair massaging oil is a challenge. Loreal Paris has brought one of the most unique blends of 6 nutritive oils – argan, olive, almond, coconut, jojoba and camelina; sounds very exotic and luxurious to pamper the hair.

Loreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Extraordinary Oil

Price: Rs. 199 for 100 ml

Package: This oil comes in a heavy glass bottle with a wide open mouth. The bottle mouth has a plastic stopper.

The color of the bottle is very attractive. It is also a see through bottle which easily shows the amount of oil remaining inside.

    Loreal 6 Oil Nourish

Nature: Very thin oil texture. If you are looking for something suitable for heavy oiling and nourishing of scalp and hair, then this is not the one to be picked.

Since this is very thin and light in texture, and I personally prefer heavy oiling for my hair, I need a lot of oil for just one use. And hence the bottle will not last even for 2 months.

It is easy to work with this oil, applying and massaging is a child’s play. Washing is easy too.

Loreal 6 Oil Nourish Extraordinary Oil

Fragrance: It has a mild fragrance which stays on until you shampoo.

If you have dry hair and dry scalp, then the moisturizing this oil provides will not be sufficient. After the hair wash, scalp feels dry and hair feels rough too. This means that the oil is not suitable for oiling before shower.

Loreal Paris 6 Oil Nourish Extraordinary Oil acts as a very good leave-in conditioner. After hair wash, on the damp hair, if you apply tiny drops of this Loreal Oil, then your hair will get a beautiful shine and detangling your hair is also very easy.

    Kama Ayurveda Natural Tulsi Soap

Happiest Ladies was lucky enough to receive the luxury beauty soaps from the brand. I received a descent parcel of two handmade soaps from the brand “Tulsi Soap” and the “Khus Soap”.

Here goes my honest review on the natural herbal Kama Ayurveda Tulsi Soap.

    Price: Rs 450 for 120g

    Ingredients:

    Claims:

Package: It is packed in a paper box with claims and ingredients listed. Within is another light paper covering which holds the soap entirely. I found the pack very descent and hygiene.

Kama Ayurveda Natural Tulsi Soap Review

Appearance: The soap is dark green resembling the shade of holy basil and the soap cake is almost a square with perfect cut edges.

Nature:This is the interesting part of the review. Calling the product just as “soap” is a great mistake; it should always be termed as a “handmade natural soap”. Again let me repeat the mistake, the soap slides very smoothly over skin and has neat surface. It foams instantly with few drops of water and you can make out the essential oils releasing.

Kama Ayurveda Natural Tulsi Soap Review

As a bathing soap it cleanses skin, rinsed away easily and drives body odour making you fresh on the start of the day. My skin stayed soft and moisturised without the need of any after shower lotions. Since it is handmade, it melts at a faster rate compared to other bathing soaps. So to be economical better keep it dry after usage.

Even though the brand claims the soap to enhance beauty, I feel it is also a medicated soap curing skin allergies. Also I assure regular usage results in a healthy skin complexion curing acne.

Kama Ayurveda Natural Tulsi Soap Review

Scent:It has an herbal scent resembling ayurvedic products and lingers on your skin for long. Sensitive ones may find them strong, but we have to keep in mind as there are no artificial fragrances added, it smells of the pure herb.

The mild nature, texture and the scent proves the ingredients are organic and free from chemicals. Now about the cost, Rs 450 for bathing soap may be expensive but anything in its purest form is not easily available.

Pros of Kama Ayurveda Handmade Tulsi Soap:
    • Organic handmade soap
    • Free from chemicals
    • No skin allergies and irritations.
    • Treats all skin imperfections.
